悯农
锄禾日当午
汗滴禾下土
谁知盘中餐
粒粒皆辛苦
At noon they weed with hoes in the sun's blaze;
Their sweat drips down to wet the soil below.
Who knows that every grain in our bowls' maze
Is paid by bitter toil and hardy woe?

Written by the mid-Tang poet Li Shen, 'Toiling Farmers' is a famous two-poem series about sympathizing with peasants. This is the first poem.
