青海长云暗雪山
孤城遥望玉门关
黄沙百战穿金甲
不破楼兰终不还
Clouds over Qinghai darken Snow Mountain vast,
From a lone fort far off Jade Gate is cast.
Through yellow sand a hundred fights have worn our mail,
We will not leave till we defeat the foe in mail.

青海长云暗雪山
青海湖上空连绵的阴云使雪山显得昏暗。长云:密布的阴云。雪山:指祁连山。

孤城遥望玉门关

黄沙百战穿金甲
在黄沙中身经百战,连铁甲都磨穿了。穿:磨破。金甲:金属制的铠甲。夸张手法突出战事之艰苦。
After a hundred battles in the yellow sands, their golden armor is worn through. 'Worn' indicates battered; 'golden armor' is a hyperbole for sturdy metal armor, emphasizing the harshness of war.
不破楼兰终不还
不攻破楼兰(借指敌人)决不回还。楼兰:汉代西域古国,此处借指吐蕃或突厥等敌人。表达了将士们誓死报国的决心。
We shall not return until we have destroyed the enemy (Loulan). 'Loulan' is an ancient kingdom of the Western Regions, used here as a metonym for the enemy (Turks or Tibetans). This line expresses the soldiers' unwavering determination to defend the realm.
